ABOUT THE AUTHOR

On the 7th February 1993 at the age of 28 years, I began a journey that would change my life.

I had been employed for five years as a Radiation Safety Technician at the Ranger Uranium Mine, located in Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory, Australia.

The idea that came to me 'out of the blue', possessed me for the year before I undertook this journey - in my mind, there was no question of hesitation.

AFTER AFRICA:
After fourteen months travelling Africa, I arrived in the UK (1995), where for twelve months riding my Yamaha TT600, I was employed as a London motorcycle courier.

AWAKEN TO AFRICA: The Manuscript
The completion of my manuscript(Nov.1996), didn't instantly bring a publisher. Disappointed, and not wanting to endure another grey dreary winter in London, I headed home through Europe, Turkey, Central Asia, Siberia, then by train across China and into Vietnam.
Six months on the road had worn me out - funds were low and I lacked the energy and enthusiasm to fully appreciate South-East Asia.
After storing my bike in Hanoi, I returned to Cairns, Australia, where I enroled in a three year Bachelor Journalism degree at James Cook University - I graduate this year.
One day, I plan to return to Vietnam to complete the Asian-leg of my world motorcycle journey.
And although it may take me a life time to live my dream of riding this same bike "Yamaha TT600" around the world, this doesn't matter, because travelling never ends.
